What’s a Registered Investment Advisor?

If you’re not aware, Registered Investment Advisors (RIA) are financial firms that manage the assets of individual or institutional investors. We are registered with either a state regulatory agency or the SEC and we have a legally binding fiduciary responsibility to always do what is in the best interest of our clients. Though it seems like that that should be a given in the financial services industry, unfortunately it’s not.

Does an RIA make high commissions on products sold—like annuities?

Unlike broker/dealers, RIAs don’t sell products for commissions. That means an RIA will never sell their clients products or investment vehicles they don’t need. Instead, they are paid a percentage of assets under management. Because of that, RIA’s only do better when their clients do better.

What about My Specific Financial Needs?

Wilson Investment Services, LLC can tailor-make a plan for you—as opposed to many of the “cookie-cutter” plans that probably don’t fit your and your family’s individual needs. Are you married, divorced, widowed? You will have specific needs based on your situation and season of life.

What’s so Important about Doing Only One Thing Really Well?

By focusing on portfolio management, Wilson Investment Services, LLC is able to focus on protecting and growing clients’ hard-earned assets. Others in the financial services industry also practice accounting or sell insurance products or handle banking. Being a jack-of-all-trades in the financial services industry is usually detrimental, not helpful.

Will I Have Enough Money to Retire On?

This is the question we all want and need to have answered. The truth is, it depends—on how robust your portfolio is, how old you are, how much money you live on now and plan to live on in the future. Wilson Investment Services, LLC specializes in helping people prepare for retirement, and he can walk you through how he helps people protect and grow their assets during any economic times. It’s a good idea to have a financial check-up even if you currently manage assets yourself or work with another advisor. Most of the time, we are able to assure people that they’re on the right track. Occasionally, however, he lets them know they can be doing more to prepare better.

Wilson Investment Services, LLC would be happy to review your current situation and let you know if you’re on the right track. We certainly won’t suggest a change unless we see something that’s concerning (too-high fees/unnecessary charges, not an individualized plan, assets in portfolio don’t match up to your risk tolerance).
